Glass Shapes & Colour Scapes

Lake Tarawera (2011) Oil on Canvas

The Glass Shapes and Colour Scapes exhibition was a joint show with two very talented glass artists, John and Frances Hanson. It was held in the ballroom of an Indian themed historic house called Alberton which is in the Auckland suburb of Mount Albert over the weekend 11-12 February 2012.

Volunteers served cream teas on the terrace and guests could relax and look at the gardens. More than 150 people came over the two days including the local MP and his wife and the exhibition was reported in the local newspaper. All three artists sold well but particularly Frances with her unique and colourful glass jewellery.

In my work I continued the theme of New Zealand landscapes inspired by time spent on Waiheke Island and visits to Rotorua and the Auckland west coast. Stylistically, however, I aimed for more representational paintings with the colours chosen being more natural and realistic.
